Being a worthy Villain of note will require you from time to time to take on the responsibility of an ArchNemesis. Cultivating and maintaining the simmering level of hatred, hidden beneath layers of courtesy, decorum, and civility is no easy task, but it IS rewarding. Perhaps the greatest such example would be Professor James Moriarty and his ArchNemesis Sherlock Holmes. Vying for the others' vanquish need not be always deathrays and laser beams. Sometimes, satisfaction can be far simpler.
