Bygone Era: When Computers Were Sexy


This April, 1978 ad for the Bytemaster computer from Denver's Digital Group Bytemaster is a pretty fascinating look at the first hesitant tendrils of the personal computer, a year after the introduction of the Apple ][+. The form-factor prefigures the Kaypro and the "portable computing" revolution, but also shares some heritage with the ubiquitous radio-with-handle devices of the day, from boom-boxes to little kitchen models.

One actually has some Lair technology very reminiscent of this. Really! Dare anyone to call me on it, and One will post a picture. Drool after those 5.25 Floppy Disk Drives. "Floppies" - does anyone even KNOW what those were?

  1. One must adapt or be overcome. The exponential advancement and obsoleting of technology will make it difficult, sure. A greater victory to BE better.

    It IS the BE Age. Java is still there, work always continuing. 2 and 46 is a Clue! 46 chromosomes? Hmmm...
