Reaver or superhero ?

Reaver or superhero?

"Reavers might take issue with that philosophy...if they *had* a philosophy...and they weren't too busy gnawing on your insides. Jayne's right. Reavers ain't men. Or they forgot how to be. Come to just nothin'. They got out to the edge of the galaxy, to that place of nothin', and that's what they became." -Captain Malcolm Reynolds, Firefly/Episode "Bushwhacked".

If your idea of pretend playtime "justice" involves Battleaxes, clubs, Ninja Throwing Stars, and "Stun Knuckles" to render your victims helpless, you are not a hero. You are a Reaver. Whatever purpose does a battleaxe serve? Carrying around and hoping to use beating sticks and the other weapons of pain infliction, torture, and murder. To be used, brandished, and proudly spoken of and displayed by superheroes.

They're really not men at all. They're little more than animals in human skins, walking and talking, and waiting to be controlled as vermin are. Let no one be surprised when they are removed like the little gang of violent scum they appear to be. One hopes it is the police that removes them, and not citizens trying to protect themselves, or criminals who will make their elimination interesting. No, let it be the law enforcement agencies and let it be done quickly. Efficiently. And with a long prison term for any of their number that are caught breaking the law.

Let their tiny influence terrorizing innocent citizens come quickly to an end.

  1. I think you're confusing some stuff a newspaper article said they have in their house vs. stuff they carry. I dunno. I carry blast knuckles sometimes. They're legal here.

  2. Mega-Rad,

One hopes they don't carry the Battleaxe out on "patrol", but it doesn't specify. It appears that when asked to show their tools of intimidation; the axe handles, shock weapon, ninja throwing stars, etc, the battleaxe was shown. In context it certainly does appear that it is another weapon intended to use on victims. The specific text is "He also hands me weapons out of an umbrella stand of pain: a couple of giant ax handles bound with duct tape, a metal pipe and an ordinary walking cane, which he wields as a fighting stick. Another rack holds more practical items such as protective arm gauntlets, gloves, flashlights, walkie-talkies and binoculars. I notice a decorative battle-ax and a pair of katanas." and is found from the post word "Battleaxes" above.

One has never been sure why superheroes need to carry weapons. What law enforcement right do they have to inflict bodily harm on anyone? Where does their mandate originate? The City or State? What governing body allows them to assault citizens innocent until proven guilty in a court of law? Evidence evaluation by scientific means - or comic book crime labs?

Thank you as always for your insight,
